Silent Monday: Jane Austen and Anna Chancellor

Cassandra's portrait of Jane Austen
Today's Silent Monday is not so silent:

Anna Chancellor, the actress who portrayed Caroline Bingley in 1995's Pride and Prejudice is related to Jane Austen. (Jane is 8 times her great aunt through Jane's brother, Edward.)  I was particularly struck by the family resemblance when these icons appeared side by side below a previous post. Both women are described as being tall and slender and having high cheekbones and striking eyes. Viewing Frances Austen's portrait below (he is Jane's brother), one sees the similarity of eyes, mouth, and chin.

Coming Soon from Meryton Graveyard: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

The undead have risen!

I have long suspected that Mr. Collins was from another plane of existence, now it has been confirmed. Zombies have invaded Pride and Prejudice and are now taking over!

Due out this May from Quirk Books, is a new Zombie inspired Jane Austen parody, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!

Whoa!

Move over Stephenie Meyer, your vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight can’t hold a candle to the Zombied out Mr. Darcy!

Author Seth Grahame-Smith is an expert on horror movies, so we shall see what develops! The publisher is Quirk Books who brought us The Jane Austen Handbook, by Margaret C. Sullivan, (Mags of AustenBlog), so maybe if we bribe her with Battlestar Galactica DVD’s she might tell us the inside scoop!

Stay tuned, for the next Zombie update.

Jane Austen Survey Results Are In

You voted and the ballots have been tallied. Here are the results of the 2008 Jane Austen Survey, a comprehensive document that describes us collectively to a tee! Janeites are an interesting lot. Reading the results, I see that your preferences for Jane's heroes and heroines are reflected in our Jane Austen Character Throwdowns as well.

If you would like to read the entire survey, send an email request to janeaustensurvey@earthlink.net.
