Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the movie - undead in a theater near you!

It’s official. Variety reports that Natalie Portman will be the next Lizzie Bennet in the movie of adaptation of the best selling literary mash-up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Portman will co-produce with Annette Savitch.

Natalie and I are longtime passionate fans of Jane Austen’s books and this a fresh, fun and thought-provoking way to approach her work,” Savitch said. “The idea of zombies running rampant in 19th Century England may sound odd, but it lends a modern sense of urgency to a well known love story."

Only this week co-author Seth Grahame-Smith had denied rumors of the movie deal on his Twitter account. Guess he changed his mind.

Jane Austen was vacationing in Tahiti and unavailable for comment.

I'm sure the movie will be a hit but I'm afraid of scary movies so probably will have to give this a miss.

Really Angelic

Blech. So not interested in reading the book, much less seeing the film version.

I like Natalie Portman but have a problem with with Americans doing British accents...awful all the time in my book. I'm not a fan of any of the monster incarnations of Austen's novels, much less a movie version but it is nice people are actually READING them.

I don't blame Jane for going to Tahiti...I'd be there with her if I could !!!

So disappointing to hear that this will probably begin a wave of more movies... like sea monsters. Have a great day LA!

Does Pride and Prejudice really need a "modern sense of urgency"? I know I don't.

However, I hope the film will lead people to discover Austen's work.

"fresh, fun and thought-provoking way"?
I find that quite comical and I'm already dreading hearing about this film.

Lili,

Yes, you're right, Natalie Portman was born in Israel to an Israeli father and an American mother and grew up in the United States for the majority of her life. She attended American schools and university in the U.S. I would venture to guess she probably has duel citizenship so she is both !

Does she do a good British accent ? We'll see...
