The Twelve Gifts of Christmas

Inquiring readers, During this month of holiday celebrations, Laurel Ann and I will be offering the Twelve Gifts of Christmas. Last year author Lori Smith's first book, A Walk With Jane Austen, made a smash appearance. The book, first for sale in the U.S. is now available in a U.K. edition. Photographs of Lori's trip to Jane Austen's England sit on each page of this calendar. Included are a description of the places in which Jane Austen lived and traveled.

    I would love to take a walk in all of Austen's world, but especially in bath and at Pemberley.

    I'd so love a copy - I practically drooled at it when I saw it at the Quote of the Day Site. I'd love to go practically anywhere JA related -- where she lived, Bath and the Jane Austen Center. . . Regency related places like Hyde Park. . . and yep, wouldn't mind visiting that lake that a particular version of Darcy took a swim in. ;)

    I think my first pick would be the places in Persuasion. Bath and Lyme. I'd definitely want to walk the cobb and take the Louisa leap! (lol) Secondly would be Pemberley.

    Well I'd like to go to Chawton of course, and then Bath and finally Lyme Park, the Pemberley of the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice...

    My first Austen destination would be Bath--even though she didn't like it very much! It's Georgian and Regency architecture and history are too interesting. Of course, I would also want to visit Chawton and the Steventon Church, and walk the grounds where she walked.

    I would love to go to the sea! Take a long walk along the Cobb at Lyme - Regis! Then stop at the Harvils for tea! ha ha

    As much as I'd love to see the sites used as Pemberley in the film adaptations, I think I'd most like to see Lyme.

    I'd love to go everywhere, but I'd especially like to go to:
    -Laura Place (it is named after me...just kidding)
    -Bath - such a fine place, and I can pretend to be Catherine Morland :)
    - Chawton to look at Jane's writing desk. for a long time. Maybe some of her talent will rub off on me? Yeah?

    Bath! I have been there, and only saw the ruins. The sketches depicting what Bath once must have looked like are incredible, and Austen writes often about visiting Bath, and has actually been to this place that no longer is. The whole concept of buildings containing pools for relaxation and restoration, a social ground for the upperclass to unstress and meet and vacation, a fast moving city famous and now elusive...fascinating!

    I'd have to start in Bath. First for all of its history and architecture from the Romans to the Regency and secondly to perchance meet up with a modern Anne Elliot and Capt. Wentworth or Catherine Morland and Henry Tilney, Bath offers so many possibilities.
