Steamy Book Giveaway: Bargain With the Devil

Update: Contest is now closed. The winners are (I am giving away my personal copy too): Lynn M (Embraceable You) and Keira of Love Romance Passion (1-2-3-4). Thank you all for joining the contest! Winners are strictly chosen at random. Send your mailing address to janeaustensworld *at* gmail *dot* com.

Like your romances sizzling hot? Ever wondered what would have happened if Mr. Darcy had put a condition on helping the Bennet family resolve the situation with Lydia and Wickham and made a bargain with Elizabeth? Enid Wilson had such a notion, and she wrote a book about it. Titled, Bargain With the Devil, Enid has Darcy extracting a promise from Elizabeth that she is honor bound to keep.

We are giving away one copy of Enid's steamy book. All you need to do is leave a message telling us which romantic song you would choose as Mr. Darcy's and Elizabeth's theme song. The Roses of Prose have chosen quite a few songs with which I agree. I am curious to know your choices.

The book contest ends August 20th. Only continental U.S. readers are eligible to win.

  1. What a premise! Sounds very promising. I'd have to say that the love song I'd choose for Elizabeth and Darcy is Truly, Madly, Deeply by Mary Gerwin. I don't think this is very well known but it (and the rest of her wonderful stuff) should be. It's catchy and the lyrics are perfect.

  2. Forgot to leave my e-mail for the entry. Big sigh!

  3. I'd pick Fur Elise. A little obvious, I know, but it fits their story.

  4. I love the old Harry Warren/Al Dubin classic,"I Only Have Eyes for You." It seems to go with the "fine eyes" of Elizabeth and the sultry stares of Darcy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsRlHlByCSQ&feature=related.

  5. Elizabeth would never enter into such a bargain so no song is necessary.

I don't read "steamy" books at all !

  6. 1-2-3-4 by White-Ts (or something like that).

    Lyrics:

    There's only 1 way 2 say 3 words 4 you.... I love you...

    (I'm bad at this!!!)

  7. YOU BELONG TO MY HEART (Elvis Presley)

  8. The only piece of music that really conveys, to me at least, the depth and breadth of the love between Darcy and Elizabeth is from the Anna Magdalena Notebook of JS Bach: Bist Du Bei Mir (Be Thou By Me). In it, the singer speaks of a love that knows no boundaries and knows that his/her beloved will be by until and after death.

  9. Thanks Vic for organising the giveaways. Thanks Kristen, becca, Mary Ellen, Keira, Colleen and Julia for suggesting the songs. Will check them out. You never know, they may give me more inspiration.

Lynn, it's a pity you don't read steamy stories because the steamy part in this book consists of only a few pages. But I know it's a what-if difficult for purists to consider. Thanks for commenting.

Falling in love with you by Elvis :)

  11. Lisette, you forgot to leave your email for Vic. Great choice for the song.

  12. Is nothing sacred? The point of Mr. Darcy taking care of Lydia was to prove to Lizzy that he was a true gentlemen after all, and he loved her. He knew with Lydia's big mouth it would eventually get back to Lizzy that he had come to the family's aid. He never ever would have even suggested such a bargain nor would she have ever accepted. This really is taking a beautiful love story down to the dirt. Lack of respect for Miss Austen to be sure.

Cool premise! I would have to agree with someone elses post here and pick "Can't Help Falling in Love with you." It was our wedding song and I love the Michael Buble version of it so much! my email is Merry816 at aol dot com. Thanks for the opportunity!

  14. I think their song would be "More Than a Feeling" by Boston. My email address is laarlt78 at hotmail dot com

  15. Hi Susie, I know some people will find the different P&P what-ifs very difficult to take but I absolutely love the scenario that Darcy can be angry with Lizzy and behaves a bit devilish. I stress on "a bit" because in my story, he didn't take the matter too far. He is truly a good man.

Meredith, Michael Buble has a real sexy voice, love his songs! Laura, D&E journey to love is definitely more than a feeling. Thanks for entering the contest.

  16. I'd have to pick "Enigma Variations" by Elgar--starts off slowly and ends with a big crescendo. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ooooh, love the giveaways! I'm not so good with the musical themes though. The first thing that comes to mind is Enrique Iglesias sinning Hero.

  18. Oops, I meant singing! How Freudian is that? ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Big crescendo is good, BB. And Ali, sinning Hero sounds much more interesting than singing Hero, at least more appropriate to Mr. Darcy here!

  20. Great contest! The song I have chosen for Darcy and Elizabeth is "You and I" by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gale. The words are perfect for this entertaining couple.

I always fancied that the song 'The Reason' by Hoobastank fits Darcy and Elizabeth. Plus that it's really a nice song to sing/scream along with. Just imagine a heartbroken Darcy.

Will not enter my email adress here, as I just wanted to post a song for the fun of it, and will let the others here fight for the prize ;)

  22. Oh, I really want to read this! I hope I get picked! All right, the song I would choose for Darcy and Lizzie would be "In Her Eyes" by Josh Groban. The lyrics perfectly sync up with Darcy and Lizzie's story and I would suspect would have been played at thier wedding. (I do not want to post my email on here, but I would like to be considered in the giveaway)

    ReplyDelete
  23. How about "You Made Me Love You"? I think it's rather appropriate!

    ReplyDelete
  24. At Last by Etta James. It will be Mr. Darcy's theme.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I feel like Josh Kelley's "Amazing" might work well as a theme song for Darcy in trying to win Lizzy :-) Great idea for a contest by the way - this was hard to think of!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks Diane, Marloes, Katies, Ihellmund, Christine, singintherain, for the comments, so many good songs, must check them all. But a heartbroken Darcy? Oh, no.

For those who don’t want to leave your emails here, you can email me at enid.wilson28 (at) yahoo.com.au direct and I will let Vic know.

Yes, it's a fun contest, thanks Vic for coming up with this idea.

  27. The new book sounds like an interesting spin my favorite couple. I'd pick "Embraceable You" written by the Gershwins or the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill duet "It's Your Love." Thanks for the chance to win.
    mathers.lynn@gmail.com

  28. A duet! I'm imagining Darcy and Lizzy singing it and they gaze at each other lovingly the whole time. Thanks Lynn for the suggestion.

  29. Like this concept. vampireprincess2468@yahoo.com

  30. Vampira, what's your song suggestion? Something related to blood (wink)?

  31. Great contest idea! Would love to win this one.

I would have to choose "From This Moment On" by Shania Twain. I think it captures how Darcy and Elizabeth's lives both changed from the instant they met. (But I am a bit prejudiced because it was my own wedding song.)

  32. Fun and fabulous contest idea! My choice for Darcy and Elizabeth's song is "It Had to Be You" (I like the Harry Connick, Jr. version :).

    marilynbrant@gmail.com

  33. Lori, I like Shania Twain, although I've heard a few of my friends who don't like her at all. But her songs are quite uplifting.

Marilyn, "It had to be you" said so much about D&E's relationship. They are destined for each other.

  34. Rebecca8/18/2009

I think that "I've Just Seen a Face" by the Beatles fits Darcy and Elizabeth pretty well!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've so much fun with this contest. Rebecca, thanks for giving me another song to check out.

Vic, maybe you can do a lyric contest in future too, the cheesiest lyric for Charlotte and Mr. Collins, haha

  36. I think that sound "Don't Throw Bouquets at Me" would be a good theme song.

  37. Is that a wedding song, Gaby? Sound interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would have to say "Without You" from the musical Rent. It is both filled with turmoil and romance, feelings shared by the two characters

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would choose Come Back To Me by David Cook. I think its a really romantic song.

  40. Musicals? I love them when I lived in London. Alexandria, has P&P ever been turned into a musical? I'll be interested to see if the producer will add a near kiss at Hunsford.

Book Gossip, "Come back to me", will that be Lizzy singing that to Darcy after she nearly loses all hope?

    ReplyDelete
  41. A P & P Musical? Apparently so: http://www.prideandprejudicemusical.com/

  42. Oh goodness. Am I too late? I feel so improper but...someone else had my choice so I'll leave it here. Etta James' version (hers!) of 'At Last.'

Or an Italian aria but I just can't decide on one, so I leave it at that...

  44. Enid,

Yes I am a purist but a better word is snob about Austen's novels and her characters.

You wrote such a nice reply and I did think of a song, in spite of not reading steamy novels...

At the end of "Chess in Concert" Anatoly and Florence sing " YOU and I" The lyrics say it all.

Very good luck with your book...you were so brave to self publish !

  45. Thanks Guilia. I don't understand Italian but love to watch the opera singers moving elegantly. Thanks Lynne, You and I, very fitting song for Darcy and Elizabeth.
