Jonny Lee Miller Makes a Splash on Both Sides of the Pond

When you're hot, you're everywhere. This Sunday Jonny Lee Miller will appear in the last episode of Emma 2009 on BBC One. Viewers are warming up to his Mr. Knightley, and deservedly so. US fans will have to wait to see this visually lovely series for a few months more.

On the same day, across the pond in the US, Jonny will make an appearance in PBS's Masterpiece Contemporary in Endgame, a political thriller about negotiations that led to the end of apartheid in South Africa. Jonny plays a British businessman and negotiator, Michael Young.

Jonny also recently received fairly decent reviews from NY critics for his first appearance on Broadway in After Miss Julie. View a slide show and listen to Jonny in this New York Times podcast.

It seems that 2009 might well be his year. Read an interview with Jonny about beating his shyness to become an actor in Arts and Entertainment.

  1. Hi Vic!
I've heard good things about Endgame. I don't have cable but someone is taping it for me! It's weird to think that it's all Jonny right now :)

  2. Love love love Jonny, ever since Trainspotting; and he's done such a variety of roles since then!

  3. Indeed, deservedly so. He has convinced me entirely from being a "man, I wish they hadn't cast him" to "He is now tied for first as my favorite Mr. Knightley."

  4. I agree. Jonny Lee Miller's Mr. Knightley grew on me and I decided I like him very much.

I never heard of JLM before I saw 2009 Emma. However, from the instant I saw him as Mr. Knightley, I forgot all about Mark Strong(sorry Mark!)Jeremy Northam is just too pretty for my taste and I found him too 'soft' is the best word I can come up with. JLM is divine as Mr. Knightley. Of course, I them had to watch 1999 Mansfield Park which I was extremely surprised I enjoyed very much. I think it has to do with JLM's subtlety of facial expression. On the surface, Edmund and or Knightley could look rather blah and blank, but if you watch their faces very closely, you see a world of suppressed emotion and feeling. JLM is so truly gifted. It's now a project to watch all his films.

Jonny Lee Miller is Mr. Knightley. He is the best ever. I have been watching him in Eli Stone (Netflix streaming) and don't know why he is not more in demand. I love Mr. Knightley now...he has character, tenderness and humor that all the others have never gotten across. Bravo
