Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou artNot in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors--
No--yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever--or else swoon to death. - John Keats
Listen to a wonderful reading of this poem by Samuel West at this link.
It is 1818 and John Keats, 23, begins a secret love affair with Fanny Brawne, his next door neighbor. The film, which is coming out in theaters this fall and is set in the Regency era, has received rave reviews, especially for Abbie Cornish. Jane Campion (The Piano), directed.

Can't wait to see this film!! I saw the trailer at the theatre a month back, and the anticipation is killing me :)
ReplyDeleteDo see this film! The costumes and settings are distractingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous it looks! I adore Keats and can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI saw this a few weeks ago--it is absolutely gorgeous. If you like your men British and mildly consumptive, this is your film.
ReplyDeleteMmmm, I didn't know about this one. Looks like eye candy to me with all the lovely regency era costumes!
ReplyDeleteNice photo's and I agree picturesque English settings and women will be a treat.
ReplyDeleteI saw this film two weeks ago and loved it! Though there is sumptuous eye-candy abounding, it is much more than mere eye-candy!
ReplyDeleteI'm finally at the point where I want to see this--at first, I didn't really want to share my Mr. Keats, but the movie does sound well done. I've loved Keats poetry since I started reading him in college and Bright Star was always one of my favorite sonnets.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really beautiful! I can't wait to see it! Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I have heard about this film. I will have to see it, it looks brill. And I loved Jane Campion in "The Piano."
