Zombies the Prequel

Sequels, prequels. It's all the same to me. None of these zombie, vampire, and monster spin-offs remotely connect me to the reasons why I read and adore Jane Austen. Despite my off beat sense of humor, I find these books slightly repellent, like seven day old meat.

Quirk books has announced yet another book in its Jane Austen monster series: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. What I find truly dreadful is that this time there can be absolutely no connection to Jane's wonderful language or plot. After I read the announcement in the above link, I felt a shiver of horror. When the book comes 'round, I think I'll pass.

What say you?

I love Jane Austen too and of course P&P, but I really had fun with the quirk spin-offs and this new does look fun since it'll explain why zombies have been roaming around England for fifty years! But that's just me...

Dear hmsfogita

We invite ALL opinions, yay or nay. That's the fun of leaving comments. Some of my friends just LOVE these spinoffs, some of us are turned off, like moi.

Inquiring minds want to know: Who loves? Who doesn't? T'is a free Internet.

I too am turned off by all the zombie and vampire stuff and even more so when they tangle with our beloved JANE! The last thing I ever saw was 15 years ago, in 1994 with Cruise and Pitt, the movie~ Interview with a Vampire~ and that's when I knew I had grown up because it didn't have the same allure to me anymore that it did when I was a tween.

PP&Z didn't tempt me either. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they would do another based on Austen but this is just not my genre.

I don't think I could bear to read it. The first book was torturous. "Seven day old meat" expresses my sentiments exactly.

And this brings the entire level of fail of this whole project to, well, hmmm, I'm not sure exactly how they managed to get lower than "epic fail," but they did.

I think seven days is far too short for the rottenness of the meat here.

Dear, have heard about Mansfield park and the mumies?

Yuck ! I'm no fan of horror spinoffs at all !

I'm speechless, Adriana. Totally without words.

Mummies! You've got to be kidding me. How can we put an end to this madness??

Hmmm, I think the next book should have Jane herself rising from the dead and wreaking her revenge upon all those who do ridiculous prequels, sequels and dopey film adaptations of her novels.

That one I would read.

All I can say is I hope Jane really does get to bite back-- with a vengeance--it is long overdue.
