Here is one of the observations:
"Continuity: In the scene at Pemberley when Darcy gets ready to dive into the pond, notice that in one shot, he is looking at the pond, the next shot shows him stepping down, and the third shot (right before he dives) shows him looking at the pond again - in the exact same place as the first shot, as if he never took the step down."I can't see what this critic is talking about. Can you? Or do I need new glasses. After watching the first 4o seconds of the film clip, do you agree or disagree with the above statement?

Uh, no that critic is wrong, there is no continuity error there. He is standing, yes, but he wasn't far away, it was in teh position he was supposed to be. Loony.
It's a very knit-picky thing but I can see it. At 00:24 he is staring at the lake, he then steps down, and at 00:28, he is staring at the lake again. The shadows and shapes of the trees in the background are the same in both shots. If he had stepped down, they should be different. Looks like they just used the same shot twice. No big deal, when Colin's on the screen, who's looking at the trees anyways?
I agree with LoriK. The shots before and after the two steps down do look very similar, but who is paying that much attention to the trees and their positioning? I think the whole point of showing the "two steps down" was to prepare us for the stunt double diving in. Anyway, who cares? The movie is great and Colin is hot hot hot.
On the DVD extra features Davies shows the error in more detail. I think it is difficult to see it in the film.
I agree with the nit-picking note. Colin is there. What else is there to desire?
Yes, the critic is right, but I think needs to get a life...
Unless you were to compare the exact position of each lock of hair, eyelash and branch waving in the wind, you can't say it is a repeated shot. Before he steps down he looks at the lake and after he steps down he looks at the lake. That is what the director obviously wanted and that's what the director got. There is no way you could say they were the same identical shot. You've made me watch it five times now to make sure. I could have been sitting back supping a nice cup of tea.
I once saw cars pass by far in the distance in a medieval jousting scene.
All that it's showing me besides the critic being a bit wrong, is that my bi-annual Jane Austen immersion marathon is due! It's been at least six months since I've had a Jane glut...
Hmm.. read them all first or watch them all first?
I have no idea of what they are talking! Maybe it is because I just remembered how fantastic this scene is, and that 15 years ago Colin Firth was young and so gorgous (okay he still is):)
I agree with LoriK and the others -- the error is there. But I'm happy it's there, because it just gave me an excuse to watch that scene 4 or 5 times in a row. :)
Pfft! That's trivial. I've always wanted to know how Darcy gets back to the house, changed and out to Lizzy's carriage before she and Gardeners even get back to it! Granted, his hair is stilled mussed, but.... :)
Yeah, can see what the guy means, but it isn't something that I ever noticed until I was told about it in the past minute. As for a continuity error, sure isn't a biggie in any stretch of the imagination. :)
Lois
That is waaaay to hard to see and I just looked twice. Really knit picky.
Is he kidding ? I don't see what he thinks he sees...I'm too busy watching Darcy and Lizzie as they move ever closer in the scenes to meet once again ! Who cares anyway ?
A real continuity blooper to me would be, for example, the VW bug car that can be seen in the chariot race in "Ben Hur" !
Don't nitpick the nitpickers! :-) Finding movie mistakes is fun. I've never noticed that one, but I'll have to look for it next time.
sorry, the trees behind his head in the close up are exactly the same, but if he had stepped down they would be oriented differently.
