Wasn't Mr. John Knightley also a lawyer?

This one is tough Vic! - and no mention of Mr. Collins [clergy] or Wickham or Capt. Tilney[military]? -[did you not want to include the "odious" ones?] or what about the job of being a gentleman, though really an estate owner [Darcy, Mr. Knightley. Sir Thomas], etc... oh well, I would have to choose Wentworth and just pray that he stayed home...

I'm all for being an entrepreneur. I can make some money from Miss Bingley then.

Really Angelic

Ah, Deb, good questions. I first included a sentence about second sons having to pursue a profession. (In effect Edward Ferrars became a second son when his mother dishinherited him.) I did not want to include the wealthy landowners (earning income from managing and overseeing inherited land comes with a certain amount of privilege.) And, yes, no rogues or silly clerics.

Military man...I am the wife of a Military man who had a very long career in the Navy ! I just love a man in uniform ( but not in a silly way like Mrs. Bennet, Lydia or Kitty ! ) More like Anne Elliot and her Capt. Wentworth !!!
