Thank you for this Ms. Place! I've been trying to reinstill my concept of Mr. Firth as probably a decent human being. After watching Valmont last week my image of him was temporarily tarnised. I hated his character (and the whole film, really). That close up head shot with the boyish grin and brown puppy dog eyes restores my faith in his humanity. Hooray!
He was dastardly in Valmont, wasn't he? And so convincing as a callous rake. But he was young then. The mature Collin has not accepted such a role in quite a while. Thank you for your comment, Janefan! Hooray, indeed.
DROOL... I remember after my friends saw him in P&P, they wouldn't believe that he was also the husband in the English Patient. I suppose it's the sign of a versatile actor that can be so yummy in one movie and not so yummy in another.
Hey Linda - I've never met the guy of course, but from what I've heard from people who HAVE met the guy (and from what I've seen in interviews and whatnot) he seems like a very down-to-earth person. Sooo if you're expecting a really flamboyant personality you'll probably be disappointed - but if you're expecting a normal Englishman...then I guess you probably won't be...

He is totally gorge. Although I've wondered if he'd be disappointing in person. I think my expectations would be too high!
