Persuasion (2007) will have an encore presentation on PBS's Masterpiece Classic tonight. One scene was quite controversial: Anne Elliot's (Sally Hawkin's) run through Bath towards the end. In this week's throwdown, I ask you: How seemly or unseemly was Anne's conduct?

I wonder why this scene bothers so many Austen novel to film purists, when TWO versions of desolate Marianne wandering in the rain soon to be rescued by Colonel Brandon doesn't rattle a teacup. It's also inaccurate...Highly so considering Marianne makes a conscious decision [in the book] not to go about in the weather and cause her sister and companions further distress!!! Grumble...Grumble...
If it's good enough for Bridget Jones to run in the street in a snowy night in her undies and a sweater after Mark Darcy, I daresay it's okay for any lady to run through the streets after the man she loves whilst fully clothed!

Does anyone else find their kiss exceedingly uncomfortable? I understand all the significance and character subtext, etc, but it still always feels really awkward to me.
I'm with you on that one Odessa -- just a little too drawn out for me.
I didn't like this adaption very much, except for the guy who played Captain Wentworth...I'd run after him any day of the week, seemly or unseemly !

LOL, I actually quite like that scene, running down the streets and then the long kiss in public. Somewhat unseeming but who cares!

And that kiss was uncomfortably long...I prefer the end scene, when he gives her the house as a wedding gift !!!
