Today is Mother's Day and I wish much happiness and joy to all the mothers who read this blog. In today's Jane Austen Movie Throwdown we ask you to consider the mothers in
Sense and Sensibility, and to rank them from the best mother to the worst. I used the images from 2008
Sense and Sensibility, except in the case of Mrs. Palmer, whose image I took from the 1996 film. This week we ask you to
Rank the Mothers from Best to Worst
Janet McTeer as Mrs. Dashwood, 2008
Rosanna LaVelle as Lady Middleton, 2008
Jean Marsh as Mrs. Ferrars, 2008
Linda Bassett as Mrs. Jennings, 2008
Claire Skinner as Fanny Dashwood, 2008
Imelda Staunton as Mrs. Palmer, 1996

I think Mrs Palmer and Lady Middleton take after their mother and her example in parental love and kindness. Wasn't it Mrs Dashwood who said that Mrs Jennings was an excellent woman? and that's saying much coming from the most tenderhearted mother in S&S. I think I'd like to have Mrs Jennings as a mother, she a bit eccentric but cares very much for those she truly loves. She also gets good husbands!
I think Mrs. Dashwood and Mrs. Jennings are the best mothers. Although one is very rich and the other is not, their love and devotion for their children, families and friends is admirable and worth emulating !
Mrs Ferrars was the worst!
