Jane Austen Sartorial Throwdown
Ah, the men in Jane Austen's novels. They are so divine, even the rascals. Film adaptations sometimes show them to the best advantage and sometimes not. Let's take a look at Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility. Whose portrayal of the handsome colonel was more sartorially resplendent? Alan Rickman in the 1996 film or David Morrissey in 2008?

I like them both because they the part their own. Put their stamp on it I guess you could say. But since I adore Rickman he got my vote.
Alan Rickman most definitely. He manages to capture the human psyche of Colonel Brandon with such feeling and his portrayal of this life-like character makes the experience all the more significant for me.
He is a most excellent actor.
Admit that I would vote for him anyway (A.R.) because he is superb. He will always be Brandon for me as his portrayal was so psychologically, emotionally accurate - & subtle. The latter being key.
And yes, what a great actor - no matter the film.

I prefer Alan Rickman's Colonel Brandon, but sartorially David Morrissey looks splendid!

Since the decision must be based on "sartorial," not best portrayal, I'm also going to have to choose David Morrissey. Like Raquel, I'm going beg for forgiveness from Mr. Rickman.

Based on these pics, definitely Morrisey. You can't beat a floor length trench coat and a brace or two of pheasant

Alan Rickman...fabulous actor, he can play anything and make you believe.
