Which is your favorite Jane Austen novel?

Riah on Goodreads asked the question. I thought it was an excellent one. I have a hard time choosing between Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion, but Persuasion wins by a hair. Which is your favorite book and why?

Regency Ball at Château Marquette, November 26th

In 1811, during the time of Jane Austen, Napoleon Bonaparte traveled through The Netherlands. Large events were organized in honor of the emperor. Step back 200 years for one evening on November 26th to attend an historic ball organized by the Society Revérence at the Château Marquette in Heemskerk. Find more information about the event at http://www.stichtingreverence.nl/

The video is captioned in Dutch, but the images tell the tale.

Jane Austen September Fashion Throwdown

Fall has arrived with its crisp cool nights and warm days. The sun rises later and sets earlier. We've laid aside our summer clothes or layered them with jackets and coats. Which of these two Regency outfits strike your fancy? The blue pelisse as outerwear or the layered full dress with tasseled shawl?

Which Regency Author Do You Recommend?

Let's face it, I love Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer novels and have written extensively about them. Several readers have inquired about other authors who write Regency era novels.

One of my favorites is Mary Balogh. Loretta Chase and Amanda Quick also come to mind.

Curious minds want to know: Who's your favorite contemporary Regency author?

Fabulous iPad book apps

Rand's MS in her own handwriting
These iPad book apps include authors' notes and source materials that will enhance your reading pleasure.
"One of Ayn Rand’s most famous works – Atlas Shrugged – is one of the newest books to get the iPad app treatment, with the iPad version released Sept. 13. And the part that may appeal to those who clutch their well-worn paperbacks when faced with a Kindle: the “Atlas Shrugged” app comes, like other iPad book apps, with a multitude of interactive features like rare photos of Rand at work, video and audio excerpts of Rand speaking about her book, and notes from Rand’s journal about passages in “Atlas Shrugged.” - Read the rest of the article here.

An 18th Century Self Help Guide for Virgins, Widows, and Wives Up for Auction

Advice book for sale. Image via the Daily Mail.
On September 20th, The Lady’s Companion: or an Infallible Guide to the Fair Sex, published in 1740, will go on sale at Bloomsbury Auctions in London. "The volume would have originally cost around three shillings but is expected to fetch up to £2,000." Learn more about the book at this link from The Daily Mail.
Advice about chastity, 1740. Image from the virtual book.
If the price seems a little steep, one can read the book virtually at this site. The advice contained inside its pages is nothing short of medieval, and would be tolerated for 3 seconds by the modern woman (but perhaps accepted by a nun.)
