Let's face it, I love Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer novels and have written extensively about them. Several readers have inquired about other authors who write Regency era novels.
One of my favorites is Mary Balogh. Loretta Chase and Amanda Quick also come to mind.

I read Julia Quinn's recent novels. You should give it a try
Although my published Regencies are traditional (no sex, just lots of plot complications), I enjoy Mary Balogh's work. Also, I've heard her speak, and she's delightful.

I enjoyed Kaye Dacus' Ransome books.
I like the Jane Austen variations and sequels, especially those by Abigail Reynolds and Marsha Altman.
For omething quirky, I love Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer's magical Regency adventures. :)
I love Loretta Chase, Julia Quinn, and Eloisa James, but my favorite recent discovery is Rose Lerner. Her writing is SO intelligent and I love how different her novels are. (For instance, her second novel, A LILY AMONG THORNS, has a tailor - and not a wealthy one! - for a hero, and her first book, IN FOR A PENNY, really explores a bunch of uncomfortable class issues in fabulous ways while still being deeply, deeply romantic.)
I love Julia Quinn's novels - the families are always so charming. :)

Lisa Kleypas and Stephanie Laurens, hands down. They both cut their teeth with picky British publishers who insisted on dazzling Regency accuracy, yet their characters are so fully developed and human. And Kleypas' sense of humor with the Hathaway series cannot be beat!
I love Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer's series too, but I recently discovered the Regency novels of Carola Dunn (who also wrote the very good Daisy Dalrymple mysteries set in the 1920s) - those I've read so far really have something of a Heyer flair about them - she writes characters you really care about.
