Coming Soon from Meryton Graveyard: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

The undead have risen!

I have long suspected that Mr. Collins was from another plane of existence, now it has been confirmed. Zombies have invaded Pride and Prejudice and are now taking over!

Due out this May from Quirk Books, is a new Zombie inspired Jane Austen parody, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!

Whoa!

Move over Stephenie Meyer, your vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight can’t hold a candle to the Zombied out Mr. Darcy!

Author Seth Grahame-Smith is an expert on horror movies, so we shall see what develops! The publisher is Quirk Books who brought us The Jane Austen Handbook, by Margaret C. Sullivan, (Mags of AustenBlog), so maybe if we bribe her with Battlestar Galactica DVD’s she might tell us the inside scoop!

Stay tuned, for the next Zombie update.

Cheers, Laurel Ann, Austenprose

Yikes !
And I thought "Lost in Austen" was the not to my liking...This beats it by a wide country mile...what's next then ?

BTW,
I will admit, without remorse,I am a snob when it comes to loved and treasured classics LOL !

Are there actually Janeites in this world who also love books with zombies, blood and gore?? I know I'm being terribly stereotypical here, but come one, Lizzy could have a sharp tongue, but it was never used to disembowel someone!! :D

Try telling that to thousands of girls who have only heard the name Mr Darcy because of 'old' movies like Bridget Jones. Edward Cullen has the spotlight at the moment.

I agree with Blarney Girl & Mella,

I think a clever and sharp tongue is much more interesting to see and hear than someone being disemboweled. Lizzy's tongue is all in good taste, polite but pointed to make sport, not to permanently injure !

Like Edward Cullen in "Twilight", Elizabeth and Darcy are immortal
because their creator. Jane Austen is also. That is, alas and happily, where they have a parting of the ways. As far as mastering the delights of conversation, romancing someone and winning them, Darcy beats Edward in every department !

BTW, I have read "Twilight"...it was pretty good but not in the same class as P & P...LOL P.S. It was way too long and I won't be reading any of the other books in the series...I'll rent the movies when they come out on DVD.

I honestly don't know much about it. I was told about it when it was in the planning phase. The thing with Quirk is that their books are as much about the package as the book itself (as one knows if one has seen how bee-yoo-tee-ful my book is) and my understanding is that this book is being presented as if it is a scholarly edition, which is pretty funny in itself. I also was shown an excerpt. It is basically the text of P&P with zombie stuff added. It's not really a rewrite. What I saw seemed clever but it remains to be seen if it will hold up for the entire book.

...did someone say Battlestar Galactica DVDs? I just heart that ragtag fugitive fleet.

Perhaps this is aimed at boyfriends who can't see the point of gentle Regency novels?

Ah, I think Mrs. Woffington has something there...very good indeed !

Mrs W said exactly what I was thinking! All my guy-friends are obsessed with Zombies and obviously I have a thing for Austen. How can one not be intrigued?

Sorry, Aliansi. Although your message is good and worthy, it was not appropriate to this post and so it was deleted. This is not a political blog, although I sympathize with your message.

Oh goodness, I'm definitely in for a tongue lashing. I adore Jane as one of the greatest authors I have ever had the pleasure of reading. However, I am also a huge fan of most anything to do with zombies. I am very excited to see if this can hold a candle to P&P or to Shaun of the Dead.

This is dreadful. I wonder what Jane would think??
