The Tales of Charles Dickens continues on Masterpiece Classic as a new five-part miniseries of Little Dorrit premiers on Sunday, March 29th at 9:00 pm and continues for the next four Sundays through April 26th on PBS. (check your local listings) This new BBC production aired in the UK last year to strong reviews. Like most of Charles Dickens works, it contains a huge cast of memorable characters. One of Charles Dickens’ greatest love stories also has the timely theme of chronic debt and financial collapse. Adapted by screenwriter extraordinaire Andrew Davies (“Bleak House,” “Pride and Prejudice”), the five-part miniseries stars Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley) as hero Arthur Clennam, newcomer Claire Foy as Amy “Little” Dorrit and Tom Courtenay (The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner) as her father, who has been incarcerated for 25 years for insolvency. Scores of other great actors appear in this moving tale that was particularly close to Dickens’ heart, since his own father did time in debtor’s prison.

I saw it and liked it a lot. It is one of the latest additions to my DVD collection. Matthew MacFadyen was a very convincing Arthur Clennam but I was a bit disappointed since... he has put on some weight:( ...he looks like an older, slipshod (forgive me!)long-settled-down Mr Darcy...even though his character in "Little Dorrit" is definitely different. Clennam is very good-hearted and honest so he can be loved for these great qualities. But what about my Mr Darcy? Where has he gone?

I don't think "your" Mr Darcy is gone (*smiles*) perhaps MacFadyen was asked by the director to put a "on" few puonds to fit into character?
I remember Renee was asked to gain weight for Bridget Jones and then lost wieght after shooting (sigh).
Unfortunately "many (misguided?) people" (insert; smiles) are of the opinion that Colin Firth is the one and only (insert look of shock and disbelief)?
Well, Ive seen BBC 1995 "P&P" with Colin Firth after watching "my Mr Darcy/Mac Fadyen"on screen. He definitely IS my MR DARCY! With or without some "extra pounds!"
