Results of the costume auction for the Jane Austen Centre

The big winner was the Anne Elliot dress and spencer jacket, but the waistcoat worn by Matthew MacFadyen, and featured in a post on this blog, did not sell. Amazing!

Women's Fashion, the Jane Austen Centre Online Magazine

More often than not my online searches for information pertaining to Jane Austen and her era land me on Jane Austen Centre's Online Magazine, a rich resource. I am pleased to announce that one of my posts about whitework embroidery has been included in the index for Regency Fashion/Women's Fashion.

If you have not explored Jane Austen Centre's Online Magazine, I invite you to do so now.

Vote for the Jane Austen Regency World Awards Nominees

The Jane Austen Centre has announced the nominees of the 2009 Jane Austen Regency World Awards today. There are some interesting selections of actors, adaptations and books to choose from, and a new category the Best Ever Mr. Darcy. *cough* David Rintoul. No influence intended!

You can check out the 7 award categories and the nominees and vote for your favorites online until 30 June.

My biggest surprise is Samuel Roukin who portrayed Harris Bigg-Wither as best actor in Miss Austen Regrets! Best actor? He was only on the screen about one minute. Oh well. Let us know your reactions to the nominees and who are your favorites.

Cheers, Laurel Ann, Austenprose

Hot Off the Presses: Jane Austen's World Magazine Redesigned

Lansdown Media LTD has purchased Jane Austen's World Magazine, formerly owned by the Jane Austen Centre Bath, and has redesigned it. The publication remains the official magazine of the Jane Austen Centre, but it now boasts a simplified though more professional format, a font based on Jane Austen's handwriting, a news section, and guest writers. The magazine has a circulation of 1,000, which the new owners would like to double this year.

For more information about the changes, click on this link.

The new magazine will be available for order September 1.

Seen on the Blogosphere: Jane Austen Centre Sale and Other Sundry Matters

Oh, how lovely! The Jane Austen Centre Gift Shop is having a sale. Please click on this link and look at all the wonderful JA offerings at 10% off if you spend 60 pounds!

Every week, the Jane Austen in Vermont ladies write a roundup of Jane Austen news. They found this new blog from Australia, Rethinking Jane Austen. Welcome on board, Jane fans Down Under.
Have you joined the Jane Austen Society of America? If not, you might consider doing so. At $30 per year it is a bargain. As a member you will receive JASNA News three times per year and Persuasions, a wonderfully thick magazine filled with erudite articles about Jane Austen. In addition, you can attend the annual 3-day annual meeting, which is in Chicago this year. (See sidebar for details.) No, I won't be going, unfortunately (or fortunately). I had a paper accepted at another conference being held on precisely the same dates in Little Rock, Arkansas. Vocation vs. avocation? Oh, dear. Since my pup eats loads of kibbles and bits, I had to choose vocation.

Contests and free giveaways galore on this site! There are two consecutive contests on this site at this time. Goodness, what a cornucopia of book giving.
