Firth, Blunt, Mulligan and Dorrit garner Golden Globe noms

Congratulations go out to Brit actors Colin Firth, Emily Blunt and Carey Mulligan for their nominations as best actor and actress respectively in the drama categories and Little Dorrit for best miniseries made for television. The nominees for a 2010 Golden Globe awards were announced this morning. All three actors have been in previous movie adaptations or inspirations of Jane Austen’s works. Little Dorrit has nothing to do with Austen, but we just liked it and would like to support bonnet dramas in general.

You can read the complete list of nominees here. Awards will be handed out on January 17th, 2010. Hope they win!

Awards go to actor Colin Firth and Miniseries Little Dorrit

Congratulations go out to one of my favorite actors Colin Firth and a great Masterpiece Classic mini-series Little Dorrit who were both honored this weekend with industry awards.

Colin Firth: Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for A Single Man

Need I whisper more than his name to an Austen fan to evoke vivid memories of Mr. Darcy diving into a lake? Even though Colin Firth is hugely popular and one of the most in-demand actors in film, he has not really been recognized for his great talent. I am so happy that he is finally getting his due. In his usual urban and witty manner he graciously accepted the award claiming it “the greatest honor of his life.” Married to Italian actress Livia Giuggioli, he joked that good things seem to happen for him in Italy.

“I rarely seem to come home from Italy empty-handed – wine, balsamic vinegar, wife, two children, and now a nice piece of silverware," quipped the actor after winning the prize.”

Little Dorrit: 4 Creative Arts Emmy’s

Mr. Dickens is still hip after 150 years! The BBC/PBS mini-series Little Dorrit took top honors with four Emmy’s on Saturdays Creative Arts segment of the award ceremony in casting, costumes, art direction and cinematography. Little Dorrit is also up for several Prime Time Emmy awards, so be sure to watch the ceremony on Sunday, September 20. Best of luck to all the nominees.

Little Dorrit's Claire Foy

In a Daily Mail Interview, "Sir Tom Courtenay calls her 'a wonderful discovery'. Matthew Macfadyen says she's 'no less than brilliant.' The trade magazine Screen International lists her as one to watch and Vogue tips her as this autumn's brightest star." Twenty-four-year-old Claire was chosen to play the plummy role of Amy Dorrit less than a year out of drama school. Her vulnerable face and delicate acting style are a perfect combination to play a heroine who has never known life outside Marshalsea debtor's prison. Click here for a video interview with Claire Foy. For our reviews of the film, click on the links below. Catch episodes you missed online at this PBS Masterpiece Classic link.

Watch Little Dorrit Episode One Again Online

For any readers who missed the premiere of episode one of Masterpiece Classic’s Little Dorrit on Sunday, you can view with streaming video on the Little Dorrit official website on the PBS website. It is turning out to be the mystery/bonnet drama of the season, so don’t miss it. Matthew Macfadyen as Arthur Clennam is engaging to watch, and Claire Foy as Amy Dorrit is endearing.

You can visit the official PBS Little Dorrit website for additional information on the characters, episode synopsis, cast interviews, and reflections by scholars on the original novel and its author Charles Dickens.
